UV and skin type

The UV index measures sunburn strength, and fair skin burns in minutes at high levels. Dark skin burns less easily but is still at risk.

Using sunscreen

Choose broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher, apply about a teaspoon for the face and a shot glass for the body, and reapply every two hours.

Other protection

Wear hats and sunglasses, seek shade at midday and check moles regularly. See a doctor about changing spots.
