Kids’ Sleep and Screen Time: Healthy Limits

How much sleep children need and how screens get in the way.

· 2 min read

Sleep needs by age

Toddlers need 11 to 14 hours, school-age children 9 to 12 and teenagers 8 to 10 including naps. Most children fall short.

Screens and sleep

Evening screens delay sleep through light and stimulating content. Keep devices out of bedrooms and switch off an hour before bed.

Sensible limits

Avoid screens under 18 months except video calls, keep to about an hour of quality content at ages 2 to 5 and set consistent limits afterwards.
