· 2 min read

What counts as fever

A temperature of 38 °C (100.4 °F) or higher is a fever. Most fevers from viral infections are harmless and settle in a few days.

Red flags

Seek urgent help for fever in babies under 3 months, stiff neck, rash that does not fade, confusion, breathing difficulty or a temperature above 40 °C.

Home care

Rest, drink fluids and use paracetamol or ibuprofen for comfort if safe for you. Dress lightly and monitor symptoms.
