Where it comes from

A cup of brewed coffee has about 95 mg, a shot of espresso 63 mg, tea 47 mg and an energy drink around 80 mg or more.

Limits

Healthy adults should keep under 400 mg daily. Pregnant people should limit it to 200 mg, and children and teens should have much less.

Side effects

Too much can cause jitters, palpitations, anxiety and poor sleep. Taper gradually to avoid withdrawal headaches.
