How Much Should a Baby Eat?

Typical feeding volumes and the cues that matter more than numbers.

· 2 min read

Typical volumes

Formula-fed babies take about 150 mL per kg per day. A newborn takes 60 to 90 mL per feed, rising to 120 to 180 mL by six months.

Cues over clocks

Hunger cues include rooting and hand-to-mouth movements. Turning away or slowing down signals fullness.

Growth check

Steady weight gain along a percentile curve and enough wet nappies show a baby is feeding well. Raise concerns with your health visitor.
